This Refraction & Reflection Apparatus Model is a complete teaching tool for exploring how light behaves as it moves between different mediums. It provides all the necessary components for the study of reflection and refraction, as well as calculating the Index of Refraction and understanding Snell’s Law. The rotating protractor base allows precise measurement and angle adjustment without disturbing the light source or projection background, making demonstrations clear and controlled. A light source is mounted on the base with attachments for single, double, triple and wide slits, while the included acrylic semi-circle chamber can be filled with different mediums to investigate how light bends when entering a new substance. Teacher instructions are available to guide the use of Snell’s Law and to help determine critical angles and refractive indices. A suitable 12V DC power supply is needed for the light source but is not included.
Educational Benefits:
- Demonstrates how light reflects and refracts when moving between mediums
- Supports calculation and comparison of indices of refraction
- Enhances precision in measuring angles of incidence and refraction
- Links practical experiments with Snell’s Law and optical principles
Classroom & Play Activity Ideas:
- Measure angles of incidence and refraction through water, oil or glycerol
- Use the rotating protractor to compare light behaviour at different angles
- Calculate indices of refraction and discuss results in small groups
- Demonstrate critical angle and total internal reflection
