Book 1 of the Linear Abacus® Pocket Book Series
Your child can probably count. They can probably write numbers. They may even pass the place value test. But can they show you what 67 actually means? Can they explain what the 6 is doing — and why it isn’t just “six”? If they can’t, this book is where that changes.
What the book does
Master Place Value is built around five activities — not fifty, not a year’s worth of rotating content. Five. Because understanding place value is not a ladder you climb rung by rung every year. It is a structure you build once, properly, from the inside out. A child who genuinely understands it carries that understanding into every area of maths they will ever encounter.
The five activities take your child from the very first idea — that digits are a number alphabet, ten symbols that can make any number — through to naming, building, and spelling numbers beyond 100. Every activity is a conversation between you and your child, with the abacus in hand. You are not the instructor. You are the co-investigator.
Who this is for
Children aged 6–12. Parents who want to sit alongside their child and follow the questions together — the book gives you the words to say and the moves to make. Families with more than one child: the activities work across multiple year levels at once.
This book is designed to be used with the Linear Abacus®. If you don’t yet have one, the Master Place Value hang pack bundle includes both the book and a 100-bead Linear Abacus® in one box. Schools who already have class sets of the Linear Abacus® can order additional copies of the book here for new classes or replacement copies.
