Any fair and caring society needs guidelines for all to follow. Children must be made acutely aware of the many values and life skills that determine the way we live.

 

In LIfe Skills book 3 the material presented in this book does not preach or make judgments but rather presents students with points to consider about their lives. It provides an opportunity for them to contemplate and reflect on the values and codes of behaviour that we should be aware of and hopefully aspire to.

 

This is meant to be a practical book that alerts students to the positive traits we refer to as values. It is important students become aware that some of their values will be stronger and more obvious than others. A person who is caring and compassionate may not have the same strengths in assertiveness or perseverance.

 

This book is not about teaching values or analysing emotions but simply defines a specific value or behaviour followed by a relevant saying, then a short story or anecdote to illustrate the topic. In other words each is meant to be a thought provoking activity to draw the students' attention to a specific value.

 

It is important for class teachers to teach students that sometimes a great deal of concentration and hard work are needed to develop internal behaviours that will produce positive concepts of each individual child in the minds of others.
