It is extremely important for youngsters to see themselves as worthwhile individuals – worthy of love and attention.

The activities in Life Skills book 1 are designed specifically for students to develop an understanding and awareness of the many things that make them unique individuals. Therefore it is imperative we see this book as a vehicle to help youngsters understand that it is okay to be different and their likes, dislikes and opinions of everyday things may differ a great deal from others.

For this reason the activities enable each student the opportunity to explore their many interactions and experiences that make them unique individuals and to understand these inherent differences are precious to them as they develop a sense of equality with others. This important yet gradual development encourages a feeling of self-confidence and self-worth.

It is important for teachers and parents to allow the youngster ample time for exploration and self-analysis to ensure a strong feeling of pride in one's achievements. This feeling contributes to a wholesome intellectual, emotional and social growth throughout life.

Teachers and parents should carefully study the answers given by children and stand ready to provide encouragement and guidance. It is not the role of the parent or teacher to be judgmental about the answers given by the child but rather to ensure a student understands that a sense of self-worth helps them to become more discerning, caring, compassionate individuals.
